The   YWCA of Madras, Lily Pithavadian Balwadi was started for the purpose of caring for the tiny tots in the age group of two – and – half years of age to 4 years from the slum areas who are left in their homes while their parents go to work. The Balwadi is a boon to the parents and a great relief to them to know that their young ones are well cared for and are in a safe place while they work for their livelihood.

There are forty four children attending the Balwadi from the nearby slums like Santhosh Nagar, Sasthri Nagar, Pullapuram, Kosapet, Periamet and K.M. Garden.

The Balwadi functions from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. from Monday to Friday.  They are provided with a nourishing breakfast, lunch and evening snacks on a preset menu. They are also given free Uniforms and shoes.  Periodic health checkups are also conducted. With the provision of these services, the children become healthy, cheerful well adjusted and sociable.
