Navajeevan

PICNIC.jpg

Navajeevan is a unique project of the YWCA. It was started in 1975 to offer temporary shelter and rehabilitation for cured mentally ill women. We help them to rebuild their lives, arrange legal assistance  if required, foster a spirit of hope and self respect and kindle their confidence and strengthen  to meet the future challenges with courage and determination.

Aims& Objectives

  • To provide temporary shelter for women discharged from the Mental Hospitals.
  • To equip them with new skills by way of craft training and to motivate them to be occupied and achieve financial independence.

SKILLS & SCOPE OF RESIDENTS

Some of our residents are skilled and have held good jobs in the past. In such cases we have helped them return to their work place in due time. In other cases, job skills are imparted with the aim of placing them in suitable remunerative employment. Job placement is an ongoing activity and we try to find them openings consistent with their abilities.

PROJECT ACTIVITIES

Our Tailoring & Craft Teacher, assisted by volunteers, trains residents in tailoring, handicraft and making garments, aprons, hand towels, magazine holders, letter and pencil holders, basket weaving, doormats and decorative items. We have added a range of new items – gift bags, artificial flowers, presentation covers and gift-wrap fine. Residents learn new skills and trades that will enable them to earn a living when they return to their families. They also prepare fruit juices, pickles and phenyle.

MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

Medication is a very important aspect of the rehabilitation process and this is vigilantly monitored by our Psychiatric Social Worker and the expert guidance of professional Psychiatrist.
