Pastor Pfeiffer Home

The YWCA of Madras – Pastor Pfeiffer Home was inaugurated by Mr K Kamaraj, Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on 3rd April 1963, to take care of Orphan, Single Parent and Destitute Girl children. It provides a clean and healthy environment, emotional security, education, wholesome nutritious food, life coping skills and vocational training and leisure time activities. The atmosphere of systematic life, with ample time of play and study, has helped many of the little ones to enjoy themselves completely while at play, and then to sit down with their books, with the guidance and coaching of Tuition Teachers. Education and awareness on social issues are given top priority. The age limit for admission is from 5 years to 18 years.

The home is registered under Juvenile Justice Act and is aided by the Directorate of Social Defence. Inspections done by the Members and Staff of Child Welfare Committee, District Child Protection Unit, Juvenile Aid Police Unit regularly. Committee Meeting takes place every month by the Committee Members for the development of the project.

Food is prepared hygienically at the well equipped Kitchen. Medical Assistance is given to the children at the time of sickness and General Health Checkup is monitored for the girls every month. Parents are allowed to meet the children once a month during Visitor’s Day. Children are encouraged to participate in Cultural Activities, taught Basics of Computer, Tailoring, Typewriting, Craft and Gardening. Children are motivated to participate in Competition / Sports conducted by their Schools and received Medal, Trophy and Certificates.

Children are taken for a Picnic twice a year.  Annual Day is celebrated with the alumini. Sports Day is conducted annually for the children once a year to exhibit their talents. Birthday Celebrations are held once in 3 months for the children.
